Boise Police: $4,000 in stolen coffee shop gift cards leads to four arrests

BOISE, Idaho (CBS 2) — Nearly $4,000 in stolen coffee shop gift cards lead to the arrest of four California residents in the Treasure Valley, according to the Boise Police Department (BPD).
BPD responded to a theft call at a coffee shop on the BSU campus Thursday afternoon. Witnesses reported a man had stolen eight gift cards totaling $3,960 in value.
BPD worked with the Organized Retail Crime Unit and made a connection with the suspect to a suspicious purchase made at a retail store chain in Nampa and Boise.
The man had boughten merchandise with the stolen gift cards, in order to return them at a third store for profit, according to BPD.
Officers found the man in a vehicle near Emerald and Milwaukee with three other people inside.
Evidence indicated that the four suspects had traveled to Boise with the intent to commit fraudulent crimes, BPD said.
